A credit note is a document used to correct or cancel all or part of a previously issued invoice. It allows for refunding a client or correcting errors in an invoice. With Fact, creating and managing credit notes is simple and efficient.
Types of credit notes in Fact
Fact allows to create two types of credit notes:
Credit note from an invoice or deposit invoice: Create a credit note directly from a validated invoice or deposit.
Orphan credit note: A credit note not linked to any pre-existing document.
To create an orphan credit note, consult the dedicated article (French only) : Comment créer un avoir sans facture (dit Orphelin).
Create a Credit note from an invoice or deposit invoice
Prerequisites: The invoice or down payment must be "validated."
Procedure
Open the Document: Access the relevant invoice or deposit invoice.
Access the "Credit Note" Option: From the invoicing cycle, click on Credit Note, or the + button.
A draft credit note is generated: The credit note will include all the lines from the original document.
Full Credit note
To create a full credit note:
Do not modify the content of the credit note.
Click on the Produce button to generate the credit note.
Validate the credit note: It then receives a definitive number. (The credit not can't be edit or delete anymore)
Partial Credit note
To create a partial credit note:
Modify the content of the credit note (unit prices, quantities, etc.).
Click on "Produce," then validate the credit note.
Successive Credit Notes
Once a credit note is created (validated or not), you can create another by clicking on the "+" button.
Successive credit notes always include elements from the original invoice.
Total amount control: The total amount of all credit notes cannot exceed the amount of the invoice.
Create a Credit note for a paid invoice
The creation process is identical whether the invoice is paid or not. During validation, you have two options:
Validate only: The credit note is created, but the refund is not generated. The credit note's status changes to To settle.
Yes, Create: The credit note is created, and a refund payment is immediately generated. The credit note's status changes to Paid.
Schedule the validation of a Credit Note
In certain situations, you can schedule the validation of a credit note for a future date. For more details, consult the article: Schedule a Document.
Create a Refund from a Credit note
To generate a refund from a credit note, follow these steps:
Access the Credit Note: Open the relevant credit note document.
Click on the Payment Menu: Located at the top right of the interface.
Click on Add payment
